Entre las tantas cosas que debo al grupo Nos y otros, del que fui miembro por varios años, está haberme dado la posibilidad de conocer a muchos de los grandes humoristas cubanos de todos los tiempos, y en particular de aquella inmensa oleada de los años ochenta del pasado siglo.
Quien hoy invito a protagonizar este espacio fue sin duda uno de los más importantes cultores del género en dicha época y desde entonces, hasta la fecha, el humorista cubano que más ha hecho por promover y ponderar el humor a nivel universal.
Jamás imaginé que llegaría a tener tan grande amistad (que conservo hasta este mismo minuto) con Pelayo el de la Seña, como todos le conocían en aquellos remotos tiempos.
Sí, José Pelayo, el director de la Seña del Humor de Matanzas, uno de los más insignes y peculiares grupos que ha dado la historia del género en Cuba.
Como siempre digo y hago, solo les daré algunas pistas para que tengan una idea de quién es nuestro invitado más allá de lo que puedan recordar, sobre todo aquellos que peinan canas y que se «desmollejaban» de la risa con aquel clásico de Roberto-Roberto, entre otros tantos antológicos sketches.
José «Pepe» Pelayo Pérez nació en Matanzas, un día de 1952 y aunque es ingeniero civil de profesión, también obstenta notable curriculum como escritor, guionista, comediante, cuentacuentos, realizador audiovisual, artista gráfico, creador de fotomontajes humorísticos, y reconocido estudioso de la teoría y la aplicación del humor en todos los soportes.
Fue fundador de la reconocida agrupación escénica que antes mencioné y colaboró por mucho tiempo con publicaciones de humor gráfico como dedeté, Palante y la revista cultural La Seña que fundara, junto a otros miembros del grupo, en Matanzas.
Ahora mismo no me atrevería a decir exactamente qué cantidad de libros tiene publicado porque su inmensa laboriosidad le permite sumar volúmenes, más que años. Lo interesante es que, de esta cifra cercana al centenar, todos relacionados con el humor, más de un tercio son para niños.
Con su intensa labor ha logrado demostrar la innegable eficacia del humor como lenguaje en todos los aspectos de la vida contemporánea. Así lo revelan sus conocidas «Charlas Chaplin» sobre diferentes temas relacionados con el arte de hacer reír tales como: Pedagogía, Motivación Lectora, Salud, Empresa, Calidad de Vida y Teoría del Humor. También realiza su Programa de motivación a la lectura a través del humor, para niños en riesgo social.
Su huella profesional ha quedado en diversos países y es Miembro de la Sociedad Internacional de Estudios del Humor Luso-hispano, de la Red de Investigación y Estudio del Humor (RIEH) en Chile y presidente de la Fundación Humor Sapiens.
Entre su abultada lista de publicaciones de proyectos de investigación, ensayos, conferencias, talleres… se encuentra el Breve diccionario de Humor, un volumen fruto de largos años de trabajo y que es posiblemente el más completo referente para los profesores y estudiosos a escala internacional, cubanos incluídos.
Funda y dirige, con su hijo Álex Pelayo, el sitio web sobre teoría y aplicación del Humor: humorpsapiens.com, que actualiza diariamente con todo cuanto ocurre en materia de humor en todo el planeta y otros muchos materiales de interés. Un espacio que sugiero no dejen de visitar.
